Day two of the ITAS 69F Youth Foiling Gold Cup – Act 4 in Torbole, Lake Garda, was intense and full of surprises. The day started out with a beautiful northerly wind soon taken over by the south breeze with which the Race Director had planned to start racing today, it quickly went from the initial 8 knots to 14. With the first gun going off at 1300 the Committee was able to finish 10 races for the 16 teams all under 25, representing 10 nations before 5pm.
Luna Rossa Swordfish (ITA) had a good day and is the provisional leader after two full flights (made by eight races each), followed by Team Argentina, only one point behind, and Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team (SUI) are in third. With two races of third flight in the bag, the plan for tomorrow is to finish it and start with the next one: five are to be closed before Friday, when the teams will be divided in Gold and Silver Fleet for the Finals on the weekend.
“I am here coaching the three Luna Rossa Team, Antigua Rum Runners, Swordfish and Piranha”, told us Simone Salvà. “We had a beautiful day today, all of the guys sailed really well, both Swordfish and Piranha did 3, 2 and 1, Antigua registered a 4, 1 and 1, a very solid day for us, we are looking forward to the coming days”.
