ValenciaMar Sailing Week, the Rum Runners from Antigua lead the ranking

The highly anticipated ValenciaMar Sailing Week kicked off today, marking the first event of the 2023 Algebris 69F Cup. Sailors from around the world gathered to compete in this exciting competition. The opening day of the event saw some intense competition, with sailors battling it out in challenging conditions. The sailors faced winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots from the southeast, creating a demanding opening day of racing.

After six thrilling races, the current ranking sees Rum Runners from Antigua and Barbuda in the lead. Switzerland’s Katana Sailing is in second place, closely followed by Groupe Atlantic from France in third. The Swiss team CER Ville de Geneve is in fourth place, with Marga from Italy in fifth. Team Oceana Vivo from Great Britain and Flying Nikka from Italy are in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

“The first day of the Algebris 69F Cup in ValenciaMar was great for us” said Jann Schoupbach, Katana, flight controller. “It was marginal foiling conditions, but we felt comfortable in these conditions cause we had them in the winter trainings. We took a bit of time to get used to racing, as it has been a long time since racing in this class, overall we are happy with our performance, the level among the top teams is quite high and it is very fun to race in these fleet”.

The ValenciaMar Sailing Week will continue over the coming days, ending on Sunday, with six races per day scheduled. With the competition so close, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge as the ultimate winner of the first event of the 2023 Algebris 69F Cup.
